Dr. Robert Curl won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996 with Richard E. Smalley for the discovery and characterization of fullerenes, the third elemental form of carbon after graphite and diamond. Smalley and Curl co-founded the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology at Rice University in 1993.
