First game in new Rice Institute Stadium
A view from the stands of the first football game to be played at the new Rice Stadium. The stadium is packed for the game between the Rice Owls and the Santa Clara University Broncos. The game was played at night, on September 30, 1950. The football players can be seen, lined up in formation on the field, illuminated by eight enormous spotlights. Written in the lower right-hand corner: "First Game New Stadium”, and “Sept 30, 1950, Santa Clara/Rice, By Harper Leiper, (Rice '38)". Original resource is a black and white photograph.
