Construction of Fondren Library, Rice University
The William M. Rice Institute’s Fondren Library under construction. Shown is the front (east) entrance, with the central section covered in scaffolding, including a high lift which rises above the top level, and from which tension lines can be seen at different angles to the ground. A number of construction workers can be seen at the uppermost level. Large piles of bricks and several lengths of pipe are laid out on the ground in front of the library. Printed in the bottom right-hand corner: "Wm. M. Rice Institute, The Library Building, Houston, Texas, Staub & Rather, Architects, W. S.
