dc.description The William M. Rice Institute’s Fondren Library under construction. A large area has been excavated and the outer wall of the first floor has been assembled. In the middle of the dug-up area, different levels are being worked on simultaneously. Wooden scaffolding, steel pylons, an earth-mover, and a crane can all be seen. A large number of construction workers are scattered throughout. Trees and the top stories of several other campus buildings can be seen in the background. Printed in the bottom right-hand corner: "Wm. M. Rice Institute, The Library Building, Houston, Texas, Staub & Rather, Architects, W. S. Bellow Construction Co., General Contractors, 7-1, No. 2". Original resource is a black and white photograph.
