Wet books drying after Fondren Library flood, Rice University
Pre-dawn heavy rains caused a storm sewer plug to blow and water emptied into a new air conditioning tunnel being dug for the new library addition. Water flooded the Fondren Library basement including the Rare Books Room.
An image of books propped open on tables and chairs on the first floor of Rice University’s Fondren Library. The books are being dried out, following heavy rains which flooded the library basement, including the Rare Books Room. The books extend from the foreground into the middle distance. Bookcases can be seen along with booktrucks and several high windows, and two Fondren librarians are seated at a table just beyond the drying books. Original resource is a color photograph.
