Men placing dry paper between wet pages after the Fondren Library Flood, Rice University
Pre-dawn heavy rains caused a storm sewer plug to blow and water emptied into a new air conditioning tunnel being dug for the new library addition. Water flooded the Fondren Library basement including the Rare Books Room.
Two librarians, seated at a large table on the first floor of Rice University’s Fondren Library, placing sheets of dry paper between the pages of wet books, following heavy rains which flooded the library basement, including the Rare Books Room. In the foreground are several other tables completely covered with books and paper. Bookcases can be seen in the background, along with a glimpse of the outside through a large window. Original resource is a color photograph.
