dc.description.abstract A calculation of the effect of Coulomb distortion on the cross section near threshold for the reactions Li6(He3,n)B8 and B11(d,n)C12* (15.1 Mev level) has been made using a surface approximation in a distorted wave Born approximation formalism® The results of these calculations indicate that* while the trend of the data may be explained by this simple theory, a more exact treatment is necessary to explain the details of the excitation curves. Experimental measurements of the excitation curves for the nuclear reactions Li6(He3,n)B8 and F19(He3, 2p)F20 have been made taking advantage of the fact that in both cases the residual nucleus is an energetic, short lived beta emitter. A cross section of 0.38 millibarns for the F19(He3,2p)F20 reaction at 4.46 Mev was measured.
