dc.description.abstract A three-variable model of the blood glucose regulatory system is developed and conformed to glucose and insulin measurements from oral glucose tolerance tests. Three experimental conditions are considered: 1) resting normal humans, 2) exercising normals, and 3) a diabetic. Respective parameter values are compared and are shown to closely correlate with known physiological phenomena. The disappearance rates of radioglucose during fasting and absorption are used to derive a technique for estimating the rate of glucose injection following an oral load. This estimate of the glucose input is utilized in the model studies.
