A study of the propagation methods for the analysis of simply supported cylindrical shells

The use of certain propagation methods for the analysis of simply supported cylindrical shells is described and the accuracy of these methods is studied with the help of two illustrative problems. It is shown that this method is convenient for more complex problems of shells with discontinuities along the generators, or for shells of arbitrary shape. With respect to the former, a transformation matrix is given which is useful for bridging over the line of discontinuity, while for the latter, the governing differential equations are derived.
