An analysis of an H-plane three port wave-guide circulator

A field analysis is made of a three-port, H-plane waveguide circulator with a full-height cylindrical plug consisting of concentric sleeves of magnetized ferrites and dielectrics, in any combination, centered in the waveguide junction, to yield a concise set of equations that completely characterizes the junction. These equations can be conveniently used to design "good" circulators by solving for particular configurations of the full-height cylindrical plug, assuming some criterion of "goodness", and can also be solved for a scattering matrix for the junction under any given configuration. Two variations of the form of these equations, one exact and one approximate, are examined. It is observed that the strategy of analysis employed can be extended to other junction field problems.
