The effect of vibrations on ordering in a copper-gold alloy

Experiments were performed to determine the effects of mechanical vibrations on ordering in CuAu. The effects of 5, 10 and 15 kc vibrations were investigated over a range of ordering temperatures of 280 to 360°C. A retarding of the rate of ordering was observed at all frequencies and ordering temperatures. This retarding effect is attributed to the oscillation of dislocations as a result of applied vibrations.
