Excavation of Mechanical Lab and Power House from tower, Rice Institute
A view of the preliminary work on the foundation areas for both the William M. Rice Institute’s power plant and the Mechanical Laboratories building. The large excavation crater can be seen, with trenches and large base slabs, and ground-level markers. Two figures can be seen at the far edge, looking down at additional personnel working in the crater. Two large, barnlike buildings are just beyond the edge of the crater, and a road can be seen behind the buildings, running through a field and into a large wooded area. The angle of the photograph indicates that it was taken from the power plant tower itself. Original resource is a black and white photographic negative.
