View taken behind back filling, during construction of Rice Institute
E. W. Irish Photo Co.
A view of the construction at the William M. Rice Institute. A large area of ground-up dirt fills the foreground, with the tower and the surrounding superstructure of the base of the Mechanical Laboratory building visible in the center distance. Several figures can be seen looking towards it. Freestanding scaffolding is also visible on either side of the tower. A group of barnlike buildings can be seen on the upper right-hand side, set against a backdrop of trees, and on the left-hand side there is a partial view of what appears to be a temporary wooden blockhouse. Written along the lower half of the photograph: View Taken Behind Back Filling" and "E.W. Irish Photo Co." Original resource is a black and white photograph.
