Flipping Willy: William Marsh Rice statue facing Fondren Library, Lovett Hall in background
The William Marsh Rice statue facing west, with Lovett Hall visible across the Academic Quad. There are straps around the statue and construction equipment can be seen in the background, prior to returning the statue to its original position, following an overnight prank. Original resource is a black and white photograph.
Rice students pulled off one of the most famous Rice pranks by turning the statue of William Marsh Rice around to face Fondren Library on the morning of Tuesday April 12, 1988. Only one student was caught. Turning the statue back around afterwards proved to be a difficult task.
