Flipping Willy: William Marsh Rice statue facing Fondren Library
Statue of William Marsh Rice the morning after it was turned from its original position to face in the opposite direction. The view is from the rear of the statue, with Fondren Library and a portion of Rayzor Hall in the background. Persons can be seen walking towards the statue, with one, in light-colored pants and dark-colored shirt, staring up at it. Original resource is black and white photograph.
Rice students pulled off one of the most famous Rice pranks by turning the statue of William Marsh Rice around to face Fondren Library on the morning of Tuesday April 12, 1988. Only one student was caught. Turning the statue back around afterwards proved to be a difficult task.
