Ray Watkin Strange, William Ward Watkin's eldest child, graduated from Rice in 1936 and served Rice in many areas, working on university committees, permanently endowing the William Ward Watkin Traveling Scholarship in Architecture, and supporting the Rice University Archives named in honor of her parents.

Ray Watkin Strange, in graduation cap and gown, holding a furled diploma. She is standing on a shaded lawn, with a two-story house behind her, and another building in the background. On the lower margin of the photograph is written: "Ray Watkin '36". She went by the name of Annie Ray as a child, and was the eldest of William Ward Watkins and Annie Ray Watkin’s children.
