Rice Institute freshmen in the Academic Quad
This photo was given by Rice Institute alumnus James Casten, class of 1942.
A group of five William M. Rice Institute freshmen on their knees in the Academic Quad, in the act of bowing down as other students look on. The freshmen are wearing their pants rolled up above the knee, are shirtless, their torsos, arms, and faces, smeared with oil. Hedges, cypress trees, and the façade of the Administration Building are visible in the background. Written on the back of the photograph: "From James Casten '42, unidentified, 1938, wrc04407."
