X-Ray and Radio Observations of the Magnetar SGR J1935+2154 during Its 2014, 2015, and 2016 Outbursts
(2017)We analyzed broadband X-ray and radio data of the magnetar SGR J1935+2154 taken in the aftermath of its 2014, 2015, and 2016 outbursts. The source soft X-ray spectrum <10 keV is well described with a blackbody+power-law (BB+PL) or 2BB model during all three outbursts. Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array observations revealed a hard X-ray tail, with ... -
X-Ray Burst and Persistent Emission Properties of the Magnetar SGR 1830-0645 in Outburst
(2022)We report on NICER X-ray monitoring of the magnetar SGR 1830−0645 covering 223 days following its 2020 October outburst, as well as Chandra and radio observations. We present the most accurate spin ephemerides of the source so far: ν = 0.096008680(2) Hz, Hz s−1, and significant second and third frequency derivative terms indicative of nonnegligible ... -
X-ray laser implementation by means of a strong source of high-spin metastable atoms
(1983)High-spin metastable atomic beams of high density and extremely small divergence can be produced by electron capture during grazing-angle scattering of ion beams at ferromagnetic surfaces. This can be used to generate a long-lived reservoir of Li 1s2s2p P5204 with enough density of metastables so that after laser-induced transfer to Li 1s2p2P2 strong ... -
X-Ray through Very High Energy Intrabinary Shock Emission from Black Widows and Redbacks
(2020)Black widow and redback systems are compact binaries in which a millisecond pulsar heats and may even ablate its low-mass companion by its intense wind of relativistic particles and radiation. In such systems, an intrabinary shock can form as a site of particle acceleration and associated nonthermal emission. We model the X-ray and gamma-ray synchrotron ... -
Xanthone-based solvatochromic fluorophores for quantifying micropolarity of protein aggregates
(2022)Proper three-dimensional structures are essential for maintaining the functionality of proteins and for avoiding pathological consequences of improper folding. Misfolding and aggregation of proteins have been both associated with neurodegenerative disease. Therefore, a variety of fluorogenic tools that respond to both polarity and viscosity have been ... -
XENON1T dark matter data analysis: Signal reconstruction, calibration, and event selection
(2019)The XENON1T experiment at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso is the most sensitive direct detection experiment for dark matter in the form of weakly interacting particles (WIMPs) with masses above 6 GeV/c2 scattering off nuclei. The detector employs a dual-phase time projection chamber with 2.0 metric tons of liquid xenon in the target. A ... -
XMRF: an R package to fit Markov Networks to high-throughput genetics data
(2016)Abstract Background Technological advances in medicine have led to a rapid proliferation of high-throughput “omics” data. Tools to mine this data and discover disrupted disease networks are needed as they hold the key to understanding complicated interactions between genes, mutations and aberrations, ... -
XS Elementary: A Space for Eccentricity
(2013-09-16)Sited prominently in midtown Houston, XS Elementary explores eccentricity as a new spatial and graphic model for the public elementary school in order to reconfigure the structure of the learning and urban environment, establishing flexibility through architectural specificity and formal affect. The project draws from the legacy of mat buildings, ... -
XTH31, Encoding an in Vitro XEH/XET-Active Enzyme, Regulates Aluminum Sensitivity by Modulating in Vivo XET Action, Cell Wall Xyloglucan Content, and Aluminum Binding Capacity in Arabidopsis
(2012-11)Xyloglucan endohydrolase (XEH) and xyloglucan endotransglucosylase (XET) activities, encoded by xyloglucan endotransglucosylase-hydrolase (XTH) genes, are involved in cell wall extension by cutting or cutting and rejoining xyloglucan chains, respectively. However, the physiological significance of this biochemical activity remains incompletely ... -
Xyloglucan Endotransglucosylase-Hydrolase17 Interacts with Xyloglucan Endotransglucosylase-Hydrolase31 to Confer Xyloglucan Endotransglucosylase Action and Affect Aluminum Sensitivity in Arabidopsis
(2014)Previously, we reported that although the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) Xyloglucan Endotransglucosylase-Hydrolase31 (XTH31) has predominately xyloglucan endohydrolase activity in vitro, loss of XTH31 results in remarkably reduced in vivo xyloglucan endotransglucosylase (XET) action and enhanced Al resistance. Here, we report that XTH17, predicted ... -

Yield strength dependence on strain rate of molybdenum-alloy nanofibers
(2014)The yield strength dependence on strain rate was studied for molybdenum-alloy nanofibers with varying initialᅠdislocationᅠdensity at three different pre-strain levels.ᅠIn-situᅠtensile experiments at three displacement rates were carried out in aᅠscanning electron microscope.ᅠYield strength and its scatter decreased as a function of the pre-strain ... -
