dc.description This recording and transcript form part of a collection of oral history interviews conducted by the Chao Center for Asian Studies at Rice University. This collection includes audio recordings and transcripts of interviews with Asian Americans native to or living in Houston.
dc.description.abstract Dr. Selina Ahmed was born in Bangladesh on December 4th, 1945. Not long after obtaining her Master’s degree from Dhaka University, Dr. Ahmed moved to the United States in 1971 in order to obtain her PhD at Texas Women’s University in Human Nutrition. Three years later, Dr. Ahmed left Denton, Texas and moved to Houston in order to be with her husband. After working briefly at Methodist Hospital, Dr. Ahmed began her time at Texas Southern University, where she has been a professor in the department of Human Services and Consumer Sciences for nearly forty years. She currently lives in Houston, Texas with her husband, and is a proud mother of three children.
