This recording and transcript form part of a collection of oral history interviews conducted by the Chao Center for Asian Studies at Rice University. This collection includes audio recordings and transcripts of interviews with Asian Americans native to or living in Houston.
Eugene Wu was born in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province in China in 1 978. Five years later, he moved to Odessa, Texas along with his mother and father. Not long afterward, the Wu family moved to Houston, where Mr. Wu attended various schools in the area. After earning his bachelor’s degree from A&M University, Mr. Wu attended the LBJ School for Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, obtaining his Master’s Degree in Public Policy. Afterward, Mr. Wu earned his Law degree from the South Texas School of Law. In addition to being involved in a variety of community organizations, Mr. Wu currently serves as an attorney in Harris County and is a state representative for District 137.
