New Rice Stadium construction, with Brown and Root construction machinery in foreground
Rice Stadium under construction. A large tractor is shown hauling equipment in the foreground, with a driver and passenger, employees of the Brown & Root construction company, looking in the direction of the camera. An awning is partially visible in the left foreground. In the background the foundation and portions of the bleachers are shown, with much scaffolding, two large cranes, and girders and steel beams rising from the site. Original resource is a black and white photograph.
Brown and Root constructed the stadium in 1950 at cost, with payments financed by twenty-year seat options. At the time, Rice's football team was ranked fifth in the nation.
