dc.description Caption reads: H. L. “TONY” BELL (1919) came from Edmond, Okla. to be a four-sport star of early days. He scored not only the first but also the second touchdown ever by Rice against Texas University, thereby leading the 1917 Owls to their first victory over the Longhorns. His one year total points was the second highest in Rice history. Halfback, infielder, basketball guard and track sprinter, Tony did it all with blazing speed and quickness. In 1958, he retired as assistant general manager after 38 years service with Southern Pacific Railroad. Now very active in Rice and R Association affairs.
