dc.description.abstract William Marsh Rice was born in 1816. At the age of 34, when the original painting was made from this print is taken, the year would have been 1850. On September 23, 1900 Rice was murdered. The actual date when this print was made is unknown, but may be ca. 1908, when it was given to the Rice Institute by Mr. Rice's nephew, William Marsh Rice, Jr.
