Joy, a 1923 cruising motor boat
AuthorHouston Yacht Club
Joy, which was built of cypress in 1923 at Clear Lake, was a cultural institution at the Club. She was owned by a host of Houston Yacht Club members, including Henry and Evan Kerr, Ed and Bettye DeJon, Jack and Gloria Boyle, and Jimmy and Sandy Thompson. The boat had an impressive history and was well regarded by Club members. It rescued Mayor Oscar Holcombe and other prominent Houstonians from Galvestonian Shearn Moody's boat which caught on fire.
