Two Injured children after Poe Elementary School explosion in 1959
Two wounded children who were taken to the hospital following the explosion.
On the morning of September 15, 1959, Paul Harold Orgeron detonated a bomb at Poe Elementary School that killed three children, a teacher, a custodian and Mr. Orgeron. Nineteen other people were critically injured - two of the children had to have their legs amputated to survive. Orgeron had brought his son to Poe to register him as a student but aroused suspicion when he was unable to answer questions about the child's school history. Orgeron had a long police record dating back twenty years and had served already served three prison terms. (Information from Houston Fire Museum website)
