Confederate currency: $50 bill with serial number 17498
Abstract
The C.S.A. issued currency to Southerners between 1861-1865, gambling that a Confederate victory in the U.S. Civil War would ensure the bills' value. Forged bills led to an intense period of inflation and by the war's end Confederate bills were worthless.
