Confederate currency: $5 bill with handwritten serial number 38613
(1864)The C.S.A. issued currency to Southerners between 1861-1865, gambling that a Confederate victory in the U.S. Civil War would ensure the bills' value. Forged bills led to an intense period of inflation and by the war's end Confederate bills were worthless. -
Statue of the last Aztec emperor, Cuauhtemoc
(1890)The photo shows the statue, by engineer Francisco Jimenez and sculptor Miguel Norena, which was unveiled in 1887 on the Paseo de la Reforma, at what is now the intersection with Avenida de los Insurgentes.
