A PENALTY-GALERKIN METHOD FOR SOLVING THE MISCIBLE DISPLACEMENT PROBLEM

The implementation of an interior penalty Galerkin procedure is described for the simulation of the areal miscible displacement of one incompressible fluid by another in a horizontal porous medium. The method permits different time steps and discretizations for pressure and concentration, logarithmic leading parts for the pressure in the neighborhoods of wells, and a radial approximation for concentration at early time. An algorithm for simulating self-adaptive mesh refinement utilizing the penalty functions is defined. Numerous experiments are presented.
