Written on a printed letter-head paper of the "Kunstler-Verein [Painting Society Paint Box], Dusseldorf, dated January 5, 1939. The letter is from Eduard Euler and is written to a Dr. Brandt offering a letter of Marie Schumann (1841-1929) that she wrote to the sister of Mr. Euler. Most likely, it is one of the two letters in the Wortmann/Schumann collection. Dr. Brandt seems to be a collector of musicalia. Mr. Euler announce himself as a grandson of the couple Bendemann, who were friends of the Schumanns in Dresden and then in Dusseldorf. Eduard Julius Friedrich Bendemann (1811-1889) was an artist and from 1858-67 the director of the Academy of Arts in Dusseldorf. Lida Bendemann (1821-1895) was person to whom Bilder aus Osten Op. 66 (1848) by R. Schumann was dedicated. Edward Euler, as a child, must have gotten to know Clara Schumann as he refers to her a a good aunt (also meaning a good lady).
