The Congregation Beth Yeshurun of Houston records primarily include materials from the two synagogues that merged to form Beth Yeshurun in 1946 - Adath Yeshurun and Beth El – and post-merger materials from Beth Yeshurun. The collection also includes materials from Congregation Shearith Israel whose membership was absorbed by Beth Yeshurn when the Wharton synagogue closed in 2002. The collection contains correspondence, including correspondence between Beth El’s rabbi and congregation members serving during World War II; event materials; property and building records; financial documents; founding and merger documents; cemetery records; directories and handbooks; awards; sermons and eulogies; meeting minutes; and news clippings ranging from 1891 to 2017, which document the history of the congregation.
