She graduated from the University of Houston with a Masters in Social Work in 2010 and works in the Graduate College of Social Work in Development. She has worked with Legacy Community Health Services in government relations, and advocated for the passage of Proposition 1, a referendum held on November 3, 2015, on the anti-discrimination ordinance known as the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO). The ordinance was intended to improve anti-discrimination coverage based on sexual orientation and gender identity in Houston, specifically in areas such as housing and occupation where no anti-discrimination policy existed.
