Magnetostriction in TbFe₂¿ polycrystalline thin films

69 MHz elastic waves have been magnetostrictive!y generated In polycrystal1îne thin films of TbFe2 at room temperature. The films are on the order of 1 times more efficient In this respect than Is the surface piezoelectric effect. TbFe, TbFe3, and Tb Dy 7Fe2 films have demonstrated comparable effectiveness. A large magnetic anisotropy whose easy axis Is perpendicular to the plane of the film has been observed In the TbFe2 films. A simplistic theory, based on a single-ton molecular-field Interaction with the terbium sublattice considered Independently, is developed.
