[[Page 1]] Annapolis Oct 25th/62 Brother Samuel It is just after dinner and I took a walk down to the Post Office to see if there were any letters for me but there were none so I concluded to answer yours which I received yesterday and I as it is a long time since you and I have had a social chat we shall endeavor to have one this afternoon this is a beautiful day clear and warm I could enjoy my self finely if I had my liberty but you know I am still under Uncle [[Page 2]] Sam and he is a pretty stern old boss he dont give his boys much liberty but I am in hopes I shall some day be free from him you say you have got all the corn husked it seems to me very early for that as the trees out here are so green as in midsummer and we have had no frost but there is some difference in the climate here and at home I think if I were you I would find some means of getting rid of those turkeys which eat up all your chestnuts as you will want them on hallow eve but if you have plenty of [[Page 3]] wall nuts you will not miss them so much you and will will have a fine time getting your corn fodder in if every load falls off as often the one you told me about margret said she did not wonder if I would get lonesome being away from all the boys but I never get much lone some still I am not as contented as I used to be in camp you see it is so quiet here and in camp there is always some eccitement here there is more but if my wound keeps on I shall get out from here in a short time I was at prayer meeting last night [[Page 4]] there was a large attendance and the meeting was interesting I always come across plenty of methodist where ever I go and they generally take the lead in carrying on such meetings they are not afraid to pray or speak in Publick I had a letter from will mason the other day they are all well now Sam as you are grown considerable since I left this winter will be a good time for you to commence going with the girls as there is so few boys about I suppose Wm does his big licks at running [[Page 5]] the gals If I was you I would go every other night with him well I am pretty near run out of material you can give my respects to every body I know and as many more as you like say Sam what has become of Jim Gray is he about yet who does Bill and George Anderson [[turn?]] now or will any of the girls let them go with them I used to know all about everything but I have quit writing to any but one or two besides home masons & Robert so I dont hear much [[Page 6]] last winter some of the folks wondered how all the news got [[crossed out]] to camp but I had some some good posters but you shall have to excuse me for writing any more for this time so good by for the present from your Brother James Miller [[page 7]] [[Envelope]] Mr Samuel Miller Wilkinsburg Allegheny co Pen [[marginalia--left--written in another hand]] Ralph here is some old letters written during thr civil war 1863 written by Bro Jim Miller Keep as Relics
