Abstract: Julia Elizabeth Baldwin Brown, affectionately known as Libbie, was the sister of Frederick Rice’s wife, Charlotte Baldwin Rice. She was the 40-year-old widow of wealthy landowner John Brown. Mrs. Rice died on July 24, 1896.
Description: Charcoal portrait of the second Mrs. William Marsh Rice, seated in a chair, three-quarter length, possibly circa 1880. Portrait is signed by J.D. Voulgaris.
