Title: Margaret Bremond Rice, portrait
Abstract: Margaret Bremond Rice was the first wife of William Marsh Rice, the founder of Rice Institute. She was born in 1832 and died in 1863 possibly of Yellow Fever. William Marsh Rice remarried in 1867. His second wife was Julia Elizabeth Baldwin Brown, a widow and a daughter of Horace Baldwin, one of the early mayors of Houston. She died in 1896. Portrait hung on the walls of the Woodson Research Center, Fondren Library, Rice University.
