This is a collection of oral history interviews conducted by the Chao Center for Asian Studies at Rice University (1980, 2010-2012)and video interviews by the Vietnamese American Heritage Foundation (2011). The collection includes audio recordings and transcripts of interviews with Asian Americans of Houston and Texas. The interviews are in the English language and in some cases in Vietnamese.
There are currently 83 English language audio interviews in the collection, mostly dating from 2010-2012, with expectation that more new interviews will be added annually.
There are a number of English-language audio interviews from 1980 which were a gift of Dr. Edward C.M. Chen who participated in many of those interviews.
Video interviews dating from 2011 and conducted by the Vietnamese American Heritage Foundation are also being added to the collection. These interviewees are Texas-based, and the interviews form part of the national 500 Oral Histories Project conducted by the Vietnamese American Heritage Foundation. Currently, there are 18 of these online. Most are in Vietnamese, although some are in English. No transcripts exist at this time for the interviews but brief abstracts for each are being created to offer some initial insight into the interviews.
Video interviews are best viewed in the most up-to-date browser versions. Access for the iPad and iPhone environments is being developed.
